Dr. Herb Cushing is a physician leader who has helped multiple health systems, hospitals, and physician practices improve quality of care and the patient experience, increase revenues, simplify work environments, and align large physician groups. He is particularly skilled at strategic planning, team building, using data to achieve the best outcome, and managing and prioritizing initiatives in challenging, rapidly changing situations.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Cushing implemented an incident command system (ICS) to lead Spectrum Healthcare Partners, a large multispecialty physician practice, throughout the crisis. His efforts included facilitating timely communications, overseeing the development of protocols and procedures that ensured the safety of staff and patients, and collaborating with physicians and administrative leadership to restore patient volumes.
He has held a variety of leadership positions at some of the nation’s leading health systems, including such roles as dean of students at Indiana University School of Medicine and chief medical officer at Indiana University Health and Temple University. He is a frequent public speaker and regularly appears on local radio and news outlets as a subject matter expert.
Dr. Cushing’s undergraduate degree is from M.I.T. and he graduated from medical school at the State University of New York, Upstate.
